You'll find yourself tasked with deciding between an array of design options. Each space is created with a mix of aesthetics, performance, and functionality in mind. Here at Classic Tile, we know that making a comprehensive assessment of these options can be challenging. In particular, in can be difficult to evaluate which options are fashioned with performance and functionality in mind, in equal measure to their aesthetic value.
So, if you are designing for an elevator, revolving door, or a high traffic area requiring durability and you don't want to sacrifice the 'wow' factor, Stainless Steel or Brass Studded Tile could be the right match for your project. Our Studded Tile ships right away, making it a great choice for fast-track projects or bringing a space up to code.
Here are a few advantages to keep in mind if you think Stainless Steel or Brass Studded Tile might be right for your space:
Durability / Resistance to Wear, Tear, and Stains: This is a primary consideration for elevators that see a high volume of passenger or freight traffic on a regular basis. If you are concerned about the level of wear and tear from daily use of your elevator, it will be important to select materials that can meet the challenge. Our Stainless Steel and Brass studs are fixed into highly durable rubber tile; each material naturally possesses brittleness resistance to both high and low temperatures. The rubber tile base component used in the production of Studded Tile is a custom formulation premium rubber, recognized for its ability to absorb and not crack under high impacts and retain its flexibility.
Heavy Weight-Baring: You may have been drawn to Studded Tile because of the industrial, edgy aesthetic (if we do say so ourselves...) but the studs are actually the key to the weight-baring functionality of the tile. The flat back side of the stud sits beneath the tile, and with 144 studs per tile, the weight is easily supported by the studs and not the tile. The studs use the natural strength of stainless steel or brass.
Corrosion Resistance: Both stainless steel and brass are naturally corrosion resistant, especially indoors where you'll find the studded tile. Stainless Steel contains large amounts of chromium and Brass contains large amounts of zinc, making both naturally corrosion resistant. Stainless steel and brass are timeless and live outside of a warranty because these metals do not degrade like other flooring materials over time. Just make sure you are following the proper cleaning and maintenance instructions (avoid sitting water, dry sweep and buff 2-3x per week).
Antimicrobial Properties: This one is a bit of a bonus feature if it's not part if your decision set; Stainless Steel and Brass are nonporous with antimicrobial properties, making them an appropriate choice for use in hospitals and healthcare facilities. They offer excellent resistance to fungi in accordance with ASTM G21.
Easy to Clean: Treat your rubber tiles with care, and they'll care for you right back for years. Sweep the floor of debris and soft buff them 2-3x per week. As needed, wash with a neutral PH cleaner or mild detergent and water solution to remove spills/stains. Never leave the floor wet, so that you do not encourage any warping of the rubber tiles. And finally, dry them with a soft cloth.
Sleek Industrial Aesthetic: Over the years customers and end users alike have been drawn to the edgy, rock and roll look of Studded Tile. You may have stumbled upon it installed in fashion retail stores in Europe and LA, to movie theaters on the east coast, NBA Sports Training center in Brooklyn, Hospitals, Schools, and Museums in Manhattan, a few residential settings in the tri-state area... and recently a staged elevator in a Pomegranate juice commercial! Studded Tile has attracted many diverse customers, for a wide range of special projects. And we are so excited to see where else they can delight. Studded Tile can give your space the cool factor that is so inherent to the design.
Customizable Design Options: If you've taken an elevator ride in New York City, you just may have walked on (or taken a selfie on) our OG, Black Smooth Stainless Steel Studded Tile. But we welcome you to unchain your creativity; we can stud any of the Flexco Flextones colors (in hammered profile if ordering less than SF), Flexco Creative Elements, and Flexco Spextones.
And if all of the above hasn't swayed you yet, a couple of bonus properties:
Slip Resistance: Rubber naturally offers a high level of friction, so you can expect resistance to slipping for both passengers, carts, and materials.
Noise Reduction: Whether you are responsible for moving materials - or you are impacted by the movement of heavy freight - you might also enjoy the noise reducing properties of commercial rubber tile.
And P.S. Studded Tile is 100% fabricated in the USA. Originally fabricated by a SBE/WBE certified business in NJ, NYC, and NYS.
