calcined/graphitized petroleum coke

Petroleum coke is based on heavy oil or other heavy oil after crude oil distillation, pass through the furnace tube of 500℃±1℃ heating furnace at high flow rate to make the cracking and condensation reaction proceed in the coke tower, and then after the coke is produced after the cooled and decoked to get the petroleum coke. According to the different content of sulfur, the petroleum coke can be divided into high sulfur coke (the content of sulfur is more than 3%) and low sulfur coke( the content of sulfur is less than 3%).

Petroleum coke is currently the main raw material for carbon production at home and abroad, and is widely used in electrolytic aluminum, steel and other industries. The calcined petroleum coke is the first process for carbon and graphite products such as graphitized recarburizer, graphite electrode, carbon anode for aluminum, cathode for aluminum etc. The purpose of high temperature calcination of petroleum coke is to remove volatile components of petroleum coke as much as possible, this can reduce the hydrogen content of petroleum coke, increase the degree of graphitization of petroleum coke, thereby improving the high-temperature strength and heat resistance of graphite electrodes, and improving the electrical conductivity of graphite electrodes to complete carbonization and reduce volatile content to a minimum degree. The true density of calcined petroleum coke is the main item to measure the quality of petroleum coke, generally speaking, the higher the true density after calcination, it means that this coke is easy to graphite, and the resistivity is low and the thermal expansion coefficient is small after graphitization.

For the production of anode materials for aluminum electrolysis and the production of graphite products, sulfur is a harmful element. The graphite electrode produced by petroleum coke with a large sulfur content produces “bloating” during graphitization, and easy to cause product cracks, when graphite electrode with high sulfur content is used for steel making, the consumption of electrode per ton of steel has increased. Generally, the desulfurization effect is not great when calcined, only when the calcination temperature is increased to about 1450℃ can be desulfurization effect be obvious. Some sulfides need to be discharged under the high temperature of graphitization. This is the graphitized petroleum coke that we often contact. Coke is carried out in a graphitization furnace under high temperature conditions, thereby reducing the sulfur content and increasing the carbon content.

The petroleum coke used as a recarburizer usually has two types: one is calcined petroleum coke and the other is graphitized petroleum coke. The sulfur content of calcined petroleum coke is generally controlled below 0.5%. Graphitized petroleum coke is currently the best kind of recarburizer, the sulfur content is particularly low, generally below 0.05%. It is usually supplied with a particle size of 1-5mm, can also accept customized 0-0.25, 0-0.5mm etc, if any require can contact Anyang Huatuo Metallurgy Co.,Ltd.
